Gold Spoon Theory

I observe almost everyone around me want to be good at what they are doing, and what they are going to do. They thought having talent is necessary condition to begin something.

These days, I used to watching the "Anchor Briefing" of JTBC news anchored by 손석희. It is said that the philosophy of young people in Korea has been changed comparing to back at the old time. The philosophy for young people about 10 years ago was if you try, then you can make it(하면 된다).  Old people at that time forced young people to try hard by introducing good examples of "if you try the you can make it" in which a man could succeed because he tried hard even though he was very poor. Of course, failure was not able to be excused because we used to conclude he/she failed because he/she didn't try hard. For a while, the philosophy "if you try then you can make it" had been left everywhere in mind of young people.

However, recently the philosophy was changed into "if it works, then I will try"(되면 한다). 손석희 pointed out that young people hesitated to try because they cannot go over a very high wall so trying hard doesn't work anymore. The wall is whether born rich or not. Sometimes it is called as golden spoon, silver spoon, and dirt spoon. Gold spoon refers to men who are born rich. They don't need to every try because they are going to inherited great fortune from their parents. On the other hand, dirt spoon refers to men who born poor. They cannot even afford to have a dream. From the childhood, they have been worrying about maintenance of livelihood, so they cannot even afford to have a dream. Those who live for survival don't have a chance to invest their time for nothing.

At the company where old and young people work together, sometimes old people encourage young people to carry on the philosophy "if you try, then you can make it". It is very good supporting sentence to blame junior staff by saying that it doesn't work because you didn't try.
I doubt that is why young people are looking for something they are talented. They see some people around them don't have to try, so they also might find something that make it immediately.
